Early Career Teacher Entitlement
The Early Career Teacher Entitlement provides early career teachers with professional development throughout their induction period. The ECTE is based on the Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF)
This entitles early career teachers to support during their induction period, including:
- a programme of ITTECF-based training
- support from a dedicated mentor within their setting
- time off timetable for induction activities, including ECT-based training and mentor sessions
- regular progress reviews and 2 formal assessments against the teachers' standards
Schools have two choices in terms of how they provide the Early Career Teaching Entitlement:
DfE funded Provider led route
Schools can choose to work with providers accredited by DfE who will design and deliver a programme of face to face and online training to ECTs and their mentors.
Odyssey Teaching School Hub work in conjunction with Balcarras Teaching School Hub to deliver the ECTE training programme. We are delivery partners for UCL and use their resources for the training programme. This programme is funded by the DfE and is a free-to-use programme that offers high-quality training for early career teachers and their mentors.
To register an ECT on the joint Gloucestershire Odyssey and Balcarras ECTE Training Programme in partnership with UCL, please click here for the ECTE Registration Form or email admin@odysseytsh.org and we will get in touch to provide you with further information.
Deliver your own School led ECTE Induction Programme
Schools can choose to develop their own programme of ECTE training and support based on the ITTECF framework. The content of the ITTECF framework must be covered in full. Schools can choose to use, in full or in part, the freely available school-led materials, which include ready-to-use materials and resources for early career teachers and mentors, to deliver their own ECT and mentor support. These materials have been accredited by the DfE and quality assured by the Education Endowment Foundation.
