We are delighted to offer several ways to gain school experience to help support you in your decision to become a teacher.
DfE School Experience
If you are thinking about a career in teaching but would like to experience modern school life before you apply, then you're most welcome to come in to school to observe lessons and find out more.
The Department for Education School Experience scheme offers potential teachers the opportunity to go into schools for 1-2 days to experience the life of a teacher and learn more about the profession.

Taster Days
We regularly offer Taster Days in our area. These give you the opportunity to visit schools and meet our team to find out more about the teaching journey.
On our Secondary Teacher Taster Days, you'll have the opportunity to explore how to get into teaching, the routes available and how to apply for training in Gloucestershire.

Undergraduate paid internships
For undergraduates or Masters students looking at teaching as the next step in their career.
Are you currently an undergraduate working towards your first degree, or a Masters student and thinking about a career in teaching?
Whether you are just starting to consider a career in teaching, or have already set your heart on leading in education, this paid internship will give you further insight into your chosen role.
With an Odyssey Teaching School Hub Paid Teaching Internship you will receive hands on experience of teaching in Gloucestershire. Led by Pate's Grammar School and supported by many schools in Gloucestershire, an Odyssey internship will give you a broad school experience to give you a real feel of life as a secondary teacher.
Commencing in June 2025 and lasting 3 weeks, you will have the opportunity to:
shadow experienced teachers and observe lessons
jointly plan lessons and share your passion for your subject with students
receive one-to-one career and subject guidance from other passionate subject leaders
take advantage of opportunities to network with qualified subject specialists
see a snapshot into different aspects of the teaching profession
visit different schools to experience the full spectrum of teaching opportunities available
Funded by the Department for Education and as part of the Get Into Teaching programme, Odyssey Teaching School Hub is one of only a few providers nationally selected to offer this opportunity to undergraduates and Masters' students.
Train to Teach Primary Open Mornings
See a primary school in action, and find out everything you need to know about training to teach (primary) in Gloucestershire at one of our Open Mornings. With school placements across the county, you could train to teach in a school near your home.
