Course entry requirements

All applicants to our postgraduate teacher training programmes are required to have minimum of a 2:2 honours degree and GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or equivalent in English and Maths, and Science too for Primary trainees.

We will need to confirm that you have these qualifications and will want to see original certificates at interview.

Confirmation of a place can be slowed down if you cannot find your certificates.

In the event that you cannot find your certificates, you will need to contact your old school and/or exam board to request reprints/replacements as they are essential for admission onto the course.

In the event of not having any of these mandatory requirements, you will be required to gain the missing qualification before the course starts. We can advise how to get the required certificates.

If you are an international candidate, you should visit the ENIC website to find out whether your qualifications are of an equivalent level to UK GCSEs, A levels and an undergraduate honours degree.

When you apply…

Be positive that teaching is what you really want to do. Although exceptionally rewarding, it can often be challenging and not something to enter into lightly.

If you haven’t already done so, gaining experience in a teaching environment will be invaluable, although don’t delay your application because you are waiting to do this.   Mention any experience in schools in your application as it shows your commitment and dedication to your chosen career path.

Ensure that all the details are correct on your form; check it twice and then ask someone else to check it.

Think carefully about what you write in your personal statement. You only have one chance to make a first impression – make it count!

Include why you would make a good teacher, how what you know relates to the National Curriculum and what you can offer. Be sure to also include why you want to teach and why your subject.

Check that the referees you provide for a reference are happy to do so before stating that we may contact them.
