Primary PGCE with QTS

Our Primary teacher training programme is a one year school-based teacher training programme, in which you will be fully immersed in school life and supported, both academically and pastorally, to be the best teacher you can be.

Following successful completion of the programme, you will receive your Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from GITEP and your PGCE from the University of Gloucestershire.

From day one of your programme, you will be in your placement school, treated like a member of staff, working with pupils, making a difference to children’s lives.

You will undertake at least two placements in contrasting schools, giving you broad and invaluable first hand school experience. You will visit many other schools and settings throughout the programme, and particularly during your Intense Training and Practice (ITAP) weeks. You will meet many teachers and school leaders throughout the programme, helping you to develop your professional network.

We will work with you to secure placements convenient for you and suitable for your needs.

Your school-based, hands-on learning will be complemented by an in-person and online Professional Studies programme delivered by active teachers from a range of partner schools. You will have the benefit of current teachers leading your sessions and have the opportunity to talk to them 1:1. We bring together the best leaders in education in the county to deliver a robust curriculum to prepare you for your new career.

Throughout the course you will be supported by a 5 tier support system, including a mentor in school and your placement school’s Professional Lead on a day to day basis.

This ambitious evidence-informed training curriculum will inspire and accelerate your classroom confidence and give you excellent employment prospects. We have a near on 100% employment rate for newly qualified teachers.

To prepare yourself for the course and to support your application, we would always recommend getting as much school experience as possible before you apply.
